Anne Bronte was born on 17 January 1820 at number 74 Market Street in the village of Thornton, Bradford, Yorkshire County, England. She was the last child born to Maria Branwell (1783-1821) and Reverend Patrick Bronte (1777-1861). She had five siblings; Maria (1814-1825), Elizabeth (1815-1825), Charlotte (1816-1855), Patrick Branwell “Branwell” (1817-1848), and Emily (1818-1849). Soon after Anne’s birth the Bronte family moved to the village of Haworth where Patrick was appointed perpetual curate. After Maria Branwell’s death her sister “Aunt [Elizabeth] Branwell” (1776-1842) moved in to the now famous Haworth Parsonage to assist Patrick and the nursemaids in raising the six young children.
